Each of us have seven energy centers that serve as junction points between our body and our consciousness. These energy centers are called chakras in Sanskrit, and they receive, assimilate, and express our vital life energy. When the flow of energy in one or more of our chakras becomes blocked, we may develop physical and mental illness.
Our chakras extend from the base of our spines to the tops of our heads. Each chakra corresponds to an area of our body’s anatomy and is associated with a specific color. Below is an outline of the seven chakras including their name, their associated color, and what each chakra is known for:

First Chakra; Muladhara (red): is located at the base of the spine and is often called the “root chakra”. When this chakra is clear and energy is flowing through it freely, we feel secure and confident. Ensuring this chakra remains clear will diminish any worried or anxious feelings we may be having and can help us perform better at work and in our daily lives.
Second Chakra; Svadhisthana (orange): is located in the reproductive area and is associated with creativity, birth, passion, and our libido. Unblocking this chakra allows one to tap into the source of higher energy to help with writing, creating, loving, and feeling fulfilled.
Third Chakra; Manipura (yellow): is located in the solar plexus and governs our will, self-esteem, and power in achieving our goals. When this chakra is unblocked, we’re confident in our ability to manifest our intentions and desires. Unblocking this chakra also releases any powerless and frustration we may be feeling.
Fourth Chakra; Anahata (green): is located in the heart and is often referred to as the “heart chakra”. Because it resonates in the heart, when this chakra is unblocked it allows us to feel more love, forgive past grievances, and connect better with our family and co-workers. Unblocking this chakra releases loneliness and any sense of alienation we may be feeling.
Fifth Chakra; Vishuddha (blue): is located in the throat area and relates to our communication and self-expression. When this chakra is unblocked, we are able to express ourselves and be understood. Unblocking this chakra releases any anxiousness we feel about how other people will react to what we have to say.
Sixth Chakra; Ajna (indigo): is located between our eyes and is often referred to as the “Third Eye Chakra”. Unblocking this chakra allows us to find inspiration on our life path and increase our intuition and psychic abilities. When this chakra is open and clear we feel deeply connected to our inner wisdom.
Seventh Chakra; Sahaswara (violet): is located at the crown of the head and is often referred to as the “Crown Chakra”. This chakra connects us to a higher consciousness and awareness. Opening this chakra allows us to have more peace, harmony, and connection to spirit.
