About Erzulie Freda:

Erzulie Freda is the Voodoo goddess of love. She is a gracious lwa who represents femininity, passion, and love, and who is typically called upon regarding matters of the heart.

She is a complex spirit who has lived many lifetimes. She loves frilly and girly things, dresses in beautiful clothes of silk and lace, and likes the finest champagnes and chocolates. Even though she is known for helping with matters of the heart, she can be called upon for anything. For example, she can be called upon for helping you afford a special purchase or being the most attractive candidate when looking for a new job.

Lwa = Love

I’ve been wracking my brain trying to think of something to write for the blog, and just couldn’t get my mind working.  I’ve been asking Papa Legba for help – a lot!  He is the master of communication after all! I had to write a poem for a creative writing class and this is what came.  Thanks Papa!

Depression

Somewhere along the way, I fell.

Exactly where I really couldn’t say.

All I know is I feel like hell.

How can I get up? There’s got to be a way.

When I find it, I’ll be sure to tell...

Guess what - I found it. Now I’ll say

it’s only a piece but it’s a good start.

The Lwa and their love, that’s the way.

Still not standing, but there’s love in my heart.

One More King

We are still in Three Kings season, which will end on Mardi Gras, Tuesday, February 17th this year. February is a month that Spellmaker dedicates to Erzulie Freda, so we have a couple weeks of overlap. That leads me to another King, lesser known than Elvis and Martin Luther King, Jr., who I mentioned earlier on my facebook page.

Kenneth King is a designer of clothing, accessories, and furnishings. He likes to create unique, one-of-a-kind things, but he goes beyond that — he teaches classes, too. Having no previous knowledge of him, I signed up for a class and met Kenneth when he was in town to teach at high-end fabric store. His creativity is infectious, and the projects aren’t just do-as-I-do. He teaches techniques that we can use with our own individual tastes.

Erzulie Freda is a Lwa with plenty of style herself, and an interest in beauty. I’m sure she enjoys Kenneth’s work, whether or not he knows that he is serving her. He can give a sophisticated flair and high quality finish to any project that he sets his hand and heart to. You can ask Erzulie to add beauty to all of your work.
