At the liquor store yesterday I got two fifth bottles of Rum. It would be cheaper to get one large bottle, but sometimes in Voodoo we do things with the rum in the bottle.
So the guy asks what I’m going to mix it with, and I answer, Voodoo. He asks what kind of a drink that is, and I say it’s not a drink, it’s a religion. I explain that I won’t be drinking it myself, but will offer it to my ancestors. I figured he probably did not expect that answer from me.
It’s funny how I can be open about my Voodoo practice with strangers, but I only share it with a few friends. We are able to get some supplies, like rum, easily enough. Now is the best time of year to practice in plain sight with the decorations all around already. Voodoo really does encompass the ordinary things in life, and by accepting and making the magic, it becomes extraordinary.
Love, Khouzhan Lucy

Do you have to use Rum? or could you use wine? and do you have other supplies for sale? like red brick powder? among other things...
