The Lwa are wonderful companions when you’re going through the worst times of your life. Outside of petitioning and offerings, just spending time talking with them and feeling their presence gives you the extra emotional support to help get you through the day. They are your Family, especially when your blood family seems to have abandoned you. For example, Erzulie’s motherly love is especially important for me now that my mother has passed away, and feeling Damballah wrap himself around me is the most loving, peaceful warmth – like a caring, fatherly hug. Along with Ogoun’s strength and courage that helps me deal with a lot of different things, I know the Baron and Maman Brigitte are always with me. It means the world to me that they have helped my husband, and now my mother, cross over so easily. Everything is a struggle for me, simply typing this up is such hard work now, but what little I do get accomplished is because the Lwa give me the love, support and extra little push I need. It may take me awhile to do what I know I need to do, but they keep gently pushing me and I eventually get it done. All I can manage at this point are baby steps but the Lwa help me take those steps and make sure they’re mostly in a forward direction. I would never want to have a day without the Lwa around.
