A friend of mine has three dogs, all of whom were rescues. On top of that, all had behavior problems that would greatly reduce the chance of them being adopted. She volunteered at the local shelter and was able to get them before they suffered any worse fate. Even though she does not practice Voodoo, I’m sure Papa Alegba smiles at her and the dogs every day.
My friend goes beyond just caring for the dogs, though. She found that one of them did much better if he had something to do, so he became a search dog. They go out regularly for practice and training, and there is a community of volunteers who do this.
I did not see her this weekend because she and the dog had a real job to do, searching for someone who is missing. Hopefully Papa Legba will show them the way and keep everyone safe.
