Pay it Forward

I came across the following quote, so very appropriate at this time of year, when we give thanks for all our blessings:

"Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude.  Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness.  Thankfulness may consist merely of words.  Gratitude is shown in acts."

So, friends, let's not allow Thanksgiving to end with a few words of thanks around the dinner table.  Pay forward the blessings you have been given by doing good for others... not just now, but all year long.  And may your lives continue to be blessed!

The Marassa are known as the Divine Twins. They are seen as children but are the most ancient of the Lwa. Even though they are known as twins, they represent 3 (male, female, and both). Serving them is double the work, but also double the reward!

A Spirit of Service

 

We often think of ways to express our wishes to the Lwa so they will  
best understand and help us. But what are you doing for the Lwa? We  
can do things directly for them, and we can also offer actions to them.

Take the Marassa, for example, who are often served as children.  
Similarly to the child aspect of Papa Legba, we can give them candy  
and toys. Since the Marassa are twins, however, give them two of the  
offering -- two plates of food or two toys.

Both the Marassa and Papa Legba have December 25th as a special day  
for them, and Christmas is a time celebrated with feasts and gifts.  
I'm not crazy about Christmas things starting already (sometimes as  
early as October!), and I'm rather sad to hear about people cutting  
their Thanksgiving short to go shopping. But, it does help to plan  
ahead. There are lots of charities collecting now for poor children.  
There are adults also lacking the most basic things a parent provides  
for children, such as warm clothing and a good meal.

So, while you are putting together your altar for the Marassa for the  
ritual on December 5th, see what you can contribute to shelters and  
charities. Fire stations often sponsor toy drives, and grocery stores  
will have donation boxes. Any amount helps.

If you are able to contribute, offer it up to the Marassa! We can  
serve the Lwa with everyday actions. Talk to them as you work, and as  
you serve the Lwa you open a path for them to help you.

Aida Wedo

Today I was actually off from work.  I walk to the drug store the grocery store and the bank.  It is truly a wonderful fall day a little windy, lots of leaves on the ground and the air is fresh.  I thought how lucky am I to live a beautiful area that everything I do is in one mile. 

Then I remembered that all this was being provided by the LWA.  My wonderful afternoon was a gift from the LWA and my Ancestors.  Aida Wedo kept coming to me while walking.  I didn’t see any rainbows but I did see lots of color.  I felt safe as I walk through my little part of town and I believe with my whole heart that Aida Wedo was with me in conversation.

I am a little confused about my job right now, and why Sobo would be the logical choice to speak with Aida Wedo wanted to guide me.  She instructed me to stay loyal and faithful because that is in my heart.  The satisfaction of my job is so much more important than money right now.  Being and feeling safe and happy is the true reward.

Damballah is always close and now so is Aida Wedo. 

Aida Wedo is the wife of Damballah and she too is a serpent.  She loves chicken, eggs, rice and white cotton.  Her symbol is the rainbow.  Aida Wedo is very peaceful and gentle.  However, please know that she will speak up if pushed.

Honoring the Marassa

The Spellmaker family will be honoring the Marassa, the divine twins of Voodoo in our next online ritual! The Marassa are the sacred Twins and are the first children of God; they are the first dead and the first Ancestors. The Marassa represent abundance, blessings, the gift of children, and the sacredness of family as well as the mysteries of the divine.

In many cultures around the world, twins are thought to be magickal. In Vodou, the Twins represent two bodies who share one soul. They span the abyss between both the world of Spirit and the physical world.

Offerings often given in honor of the Marassa are baby goat stew wrapped in banana leaves, toys, fizzy drinks, candy, and popcorn. Saints who are associated with the Marassa are St. Cosmas and St. Damian.

Ask For It

Spellmaker has money spells, powerful ways to increase your own prosperity. While you're putting that energy out there, you can increase your chances by voicing your requests. I'm not talking about having your hand out all the time, but you never know who might have something for you. I have two examples.

I was working in a theater workshop some years back, where people work for low pay in return for creative opportunities. Among the humming sewing machines, a guy from the props department mentioned that he would like to have a certain type of computer. Coincidentally, I knew someone who collected older computers and reconditioned them for fun, and gave them to friends afterward. I helped them to connect and the prop guy got a good working laptop or free.

My arborist was estimating some damage in my yard, and I mentioned a tree that I liked. Someone had contacted him earlier that week to remove a tree that was too big for her yard -- the same type I asked about! It's happily growing in my yard now.

We have thrift shops and Craig's List, but you also never know if a friend is getting rid of something you need. A book, a dress, a piece of furniture, an introduction to a potential employer... you won't know unless you ask for it!
