Recently I was catching up on reading a few magazines to which I subscribe. An issue of Saveur had an article that caught my eye: A Feast for All in Senegal. It was interesting reading - I love to cook, foreign cuisine is especially exciting for me - and it was well-written with beautiful photography.
What really struck me, though, was the tingling sensation in my body as I was reading and the sudden knowledge that the feast in the magazine is some of the original food for the Lwa. Sitting on the couch I could almost literally feel several of them crowding in to look at the pages and send their intention for me to prepare some of these dishes, preferably right now!
While we at Spellmaker™ practice New Orleans Voodoo, with its rich history carried on the backs of slaves, the Lwa themselves come from West Africa and remember their origins and offerings there. I have often wondered if part of the reason they made themselves known to me is because my own family has a history as African missionaries. They brought their own religion to that part of the world, and in return the Lwa came here.
Fair enough, I say, and plan to make this meal in service to them. Oh, and me too!
Much Love!
