How do you use your oils?

Eons ago, there was a perfume commercial, I think it was for Chanel, where women talked about their favorite places to wear it. Pulse points, such as the wrist and neck, are a bit warmer so they release the scent more.

While Spellmaker's Cosmic Voodoo™ Oils smell wonderful, that's not our primary reason for wearing them. When I do wear them, though, I think about which area of the body best represents the intention. Chakras are an easy choice, particularly the heart for love. My Abre Camino (Road Opener)™ oil ends up near my elbows. I think because I "reach out" as I find my way.

Another favorite is Ogoun's Iron Sword™ oil. I often use it on my back to add strength to my spine. It's a hot oil, though, and can be irritating for me. I also use it on the bottoms of my feet, which works well for me. If the oils are too strong for any reason, they can be diluted with an unscented oil, or apply just a small amount.

Something I learned about with perfumes is a scent locket — a locket with perforations that allow you to wear a scent without having it on your skin. Besides avoiding any skin reaction, you can also "take off" the perfume easily if, for example, you will be around someone who has sensitivities.

No matter how you use them, the Cosmic Voodoo™ Oils are wonderful. Don't forget Papa Alegba's Gatekey™ Oil, Erzulie's All That Glitters™ Love Oil, and the Bayou Voudou™ potions.

She Works Without Tire!

I have recently been working very long hours. While I am very thankful for the income, I am equally as grateful to serve a lwa who “works ceaselessly without tire.”

There is always more to learn about the lwa- this is one of the reasons they are referred to as Mysteries.  This is especially true for LaSirene. As Mambo has said, instead of just being a “pretty mermaid”, LaSirene is as deep and mysterious as the ocean.

While she certainly has her dark side, LaSirene has many other wonderful qualities as well. She is especially noted in Haiti for transcending racial differences. She also can influence the subconscious and aid in psychic abilities, bring luck, and increase one’s stamina. LaSirene is said to always be working for her children and can help them keep going when they are tired. She has certainly helped me with this!

One fun moment of the day is my commute to work. I have a mix of random songs and shuffle through them during the trip. Very often, the first song to play is just what I needed to hear…and one that makes me think of LaSirene- honor to her!

why I don't go with the flow

Anyone that knows me, knows I hate the saying "everything happens for a reason."  There are a few reasons why, but mostly, no one ever says that when something GOOD happened.  You won the lottery..nothing.  Your car gets stolen "Oh, everything happens for a reason."  Also, to me, it signifies that I have no control over my life whatsoever, and that no matter what I do, the outcome is going to be the same..to bring me to that one spot that is the reason eveything happens!

As someone who does spellwork, I guess I can't really buy into it.  If it has happened for a reason, then why am I using magick to try and undo it, change it, prevent it, or bring it together.  Spellwork and magick is about making something happen in your life that might not happen on its own.  It is about having 'control' of your life path, and really living that life you want. 

I have used spellwork in just about any area you could imagine, and had wonderful things happen.  But had I not believed I was the captain of my own destiny, who knows where I would be?  Probably a lot less happy! So, get going, and create the life YOU want (with a little help from your friends, Les Lois!)

Let's Talk About Spellwork: Part Two

In part one, I discussed that you are shaping YOURSELF in The Reflection™ as part of creating the reality you desire. A crucial component of this is to not sabotage your own efforts. As you mold the new version of you that is in line with your goal you must support the growth of this fledgling self.

 

How is this done?

 

Mambo Sam gives much guidance on the subject, but it boils down to two strategies:

 

1. Being true to your spellwork by remaining positive

 

and

 

2. Keeping your work to yourself.

 

Positivity is important in spellwork for obvious reasons. But in terms of bringing the future that you wish to have, it is the very catalyst that will spur you to success. As you think positively about yourself and your situation, you are actually forging that new version of you - along with the web of fresh possibilities that extend outward, weaving the new reality that becomes your desired result.

 

While you are doing this, though, privacy is of the utmost importance. Your spellwork gains strength in your faith and loses it in the face of opposition. Revealing your intent to anyone else anchors you in their reality, an area where their perceptions and energies interfere with and deter your own.

Preparation

Officially, fall is still a few days away with the equinox on the 23rd, but we feel the difference when September begins. School starts, and even if we are not involved with education we know that work gets more intense and road traffic is heavier. I recently talked about making Love Potion #9 and the Chinese Harvest Moon Festival. Like school, I see those things as preparation.

We do quite a lot of spell and adjunct work with a specific intention, but it's also preparation. The magic that we work not only brings us closer to what we want, it also prepares us to receive what we want. How often do you have to fight negative thoughts? As time goes on, do you find it harder or easier? The confidence, the feeling of assurance in reaching your goals — how has it changed?

I admit, it comes and goes for me. Some days I'll feel like my goals are right around the corner, and other times I'll be in a pit of despair. And then I have to wonder, are those thoughts mine or am I picking them up elsewhere? When I feel down about my job search, I'll remember that I just heard another depressing statistic on the news. Then it's easier to decide that my real self is positive and worthy and ready for that perfect job! Not to mention those other things I'm waiting for.  ;-)

Signs, Signs, Everywhere a Sign

Greetings in the name of God, the ancestors, and Les Lois:

Hello everyone! I wanted to address several posts that have had to do with "signs" before, during, and after spellcasting:

First off -- Les Lois (the lwa) choose many ways to communicate with the spell caster. Some of you have reported actually seeing Les Lois during your spell casting, feeling someone else in the room, waking up feeling that someone was sitting on the bed, etc.  These types of manifestations are for those who aren't afraid! :-)

Generally speaking, Les Lois will not "appear" to you if you do not want them to, or if they sense that they are going to scare the heck out of you!

Additionally, many of you have reported seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling other "signs" -- songs that remind you of your case, running into someone who tells you news of your beloved, seeing people dressed in certain ways that remind you of the lwa, street signs, and other seemingly "coincidental" happenings. This is another way that Les Lois communicate with you. Sometimes they are giving you an actual sign of what is to come.  However, most often it is to let you know that they are on the case, they haven't forgotten you, they HEAR you and are, indeed, trying to help you.

Personally, if you feel that something is a sign, then that is a good indicator that it is! I encourage  each and everyone of you to open yourselves up to this experience and not just negate what you see and feel about something. Very rarely will the lwa send you a "bad" sign that things aren't going well, they just generally try to work harder. So when you are thinking about your love and "your" song comes on the radio, don't toss it off as a coincidence.

For example, I recently had an extremely bad experience with a supposed friend who stole from me (bad idea) and was in a bit of a quandry about what to do about it. I have many tools in my arsenal to deal with this problem, but couldn't decide what was the best one to use. I was driving and thinking about it and I asked the lwa to give me a sign of how I should handle this problem. Next song on the radio? Metallica's "Master of Puppets". It let me know just exactly what type of magick I will use to take care of the problem. These particular lyrics came across loud and clear:

Now, indeed, I did ASK for that sign so I recognized it, but even if I hadn't asked about it and had just been thinking about the problem, I would have recognized this sign to let me know how to put this little weasel down. (Sorry guys, those of you who know me, know that I have to really be pushed into action against those who would hurt me, but enough is enough sometimes!)

So please do look for signs and manifestations and feelings, etc. Les Lois do speak -- but sometimes you have to listen really closely. And no, none of you are crazy for thinking you have seen a sign -- get that out of your mind. And there are no damned coincidences, either. :-)
