Hi Everyone,
Happy The Man
Happy the man, and happy he alone,
He who can call today his own:
He who, secure within, can say,
Tomorrow do thy worst, for I have lived today.
Be fair or foul or rain or shine
The joys I have possessed, in spite of fate, are mine.
Not Heaven itself upon the past has power,
But what has been, has been, and I have had my hour.
by John Dryden
I came across this poem the other day by Restoration poet John Dryden, and after reading it I felt so uplifted I had to share it with all of you! So many times we get blogged down in the day to day living of life…what we have, what we don’t have, who we know, where we are going…it all becomes so overwhelming and we forget to actually take a moment and realize that there are blessings all around, and that all we possess is truly ours. It can be difficult to remember that no matter what life throws at us, there are blessings to be had and happiness to be felt.
I hate for this to sound like a cliché “look for the silver lining” type of thing, but that’s sort of what it is…cliché as it may be. We are each responsible for our own happiness, and if we aren’t happy with where we are in life or with the events that have shaped us on this journey or the things that are shaping where we are headed, then it is within our power to step forth and find our way toward happiness. We can each have our hour! We all have a great deal of personal power, and that coupled with spiritual endeavors such as working with Les Lois, can help to bring our lives back into the happiness we seek. Of course, we should also feel happy with each moment of this existence, but sometimes it can be difficult for us to remember to do that (even for me!). I guess that’s what struck me so much about this poem. It is a nice reminder to own where you are and where you’re going and find happiness in the day to day journey!
Much love and happiness,
Sister Candelaria
