The Basics Of Candle Magick

Hey Everybody!
Since my blog about pink candles, I've gotten a lot of questions about those lovely little pink friends of ours and about candle magick, in general.   Candle Magick is such a good way to augment your spell work and to help things along in your every day life.  Over the years, I've done a metric ton of candle work.  Our dearest Orleanna, who was my caseworker many, many moons ago, used to call me the queen of candle magick!  LOL  Now, she was definitely exaggerating, but over the years I have found that I always turn to candle magick when any situation in my life needs a little tweaking.
The Candle Magick Kits  we sell are pretty much crafted so that you can use them how you like, within the confines of the instructions.  So, sometimes for those starting out, it's difficult to know exactly what to do or where to begin. Whelp, here are da basics, my friends...

First of all, did you know that you can carve on the image candles that come in your candle magick kits?  Yeppsiree, you can!!  I do it all the time.  You don't have to do it, but I think it's pretty cool, so I always do.  All you need is a twisted nail and you're all set.  I like to carve the name of the person I'm working on, even if it's myself (and yes you can do candle magick on yourself, too!).  I usually do candle magick kits in trios, since that's the most effective way to reach someone, so I will also carve "Mind," "Body," or "Spirit" on the candle, depending on which one you're working on.  Then, I will sometimes carve words that are pertinent like "healing" or "love" or "passion"...you get the idea! ;-)  Then, you dress the candle per the instructions that come with your kit.

Now, here's a little tip...don't put a ton of herbs on your candle.  Put just enough on so that when you stand back and look at it, you can say, "Yep, I believe there's some herbs on that candle."  but no more than that.  Why?  Because the herbs tend to make the candle take off like a house 'a fire, and that's not what we want!!  Just a pinch of herbs will do the trick.;-)

Which brings me to my next point...I know it's hard not to wish it away, BUT you don't want your candle to burn down super quickly.  I know, I know, you want to get it over with so that you can get what you want as fast as possible, right?  Well, the truth of the matter is that the more sessions you get out of a candle, the stronger the spell will be that you cast with that candle.  Makes sense, right? ;-)  Now, of course, if your candle just burns quickly on it's own, then that's OK.  Sometimes that does happen.  However, what you don't want to do is encourage the candle to burn quickly in some way or do something extreme like use the herbs to build a little bonfire around the wick.  (Admit it...you've thought about it!  Don't make me shake my pointy stick at you! heehee)  Not only does it do a disservice to your spell work, BUT the spell you cast with that candle will not be as strong as it could be, and that might mean that you will need another candle magick kit to add to the energy you've put out there with the first one.  Soooooo, it's best to just do the sessions, as many as it takes, and let it burn of it's own accord.  Got it?!;-)

Now, how to petition.  Well, the best and most effective way to petition when doing candle magick is to "remove and replace."  Yep, that's right, remove what you don't want and replace it with what you do.  It's just that simple.  For instance, if you are doing pink candle work (since I seem to have created a theme here), depending on how you are using them, you might want to petition that your HD will be removed of the trauma from past relationships that is keeping him or her from allowing themselves to love you and that trauma will be then be replace with the ability to feel warm, gushy, romantic love for you.  See where I'm going with that? ;-)  Put it in your own words, of course, but that's the gist of it.  It works the same, no matter what color of candle magick you are doing.  Always "remove and replace" for most effectiveness.

Sooooooo, I hope that helps those of you that are hunkering down to do some good quality candle magick.  I have always found candle magick to be very effective and I actually enjoy my candle sessions very much.  I hope this will help you to enjoy the time you spend doing candle work too, and also help you to get as much as you can out of each candle magick session.

Light and much love,
Candelaria
